League: German Bundesliga Play-Offs
Cologne vs Holstein Kiel
Pick: Cologne to Win

  • Cologne won three of their last six league games since boss Friedhelm Funkel took charge on 12th
  • The hosts have won two of their last three starts at RheinEnergieStadion including a 2-1 success over RB Leipzig at the end of last month.
  • Holstein Kiel lost their last two Bundesliga 2 games and four of their last six on the road (W1, D1).

Cologne to show their class

Cologne have been much improved since Friedhelm Funkel took over from departing manager Markus Gisdol in mid-April and The Billy Goats should be too strong for Bundesliga 2 challengers Holstein Kiel at RheinEnergieStadion this Wednesday night.

Despite the predicament they find themselves in, Cologne finished the regular season strongly and would’ve probably avoided this agonising Play-Off tie had there been several more games to play.

Since Funkel stepped into the hotseat, The Billy Goats have won three from six top flight matches and two of their last three at home, including a 2-1 success over RB Leipzig here at the end of April.

If Cologne can produce anything close to that kind of performance in midweek, they’re likely to cut through a Holstein Kiel outfit who have lost four of their last six outings on the road.

Ole Werner’s charges won’t exactly be confident on the back of those results and losing their final two matches of the second tier campaign, so we’re recommending a three point wager on the hosts this Wednesday and we think Cologne can put some clear daylight between the teams via a 4-1 score-line.
